The Interview

How you had the idea of Dihzahyners and ‘Paint Up’?

Dihzahyners is a team of 10 to 12 inspired, driven & passionate artists/designers.

From our believe in the powerful use of expression and communication, we  decided to give a kind of  a «make over» to  broken and gloomy public spaces/locations in Beirut through a series of urban and street art initiatives that were later known as ‘Paint Up!’ volumes.

Our uplifts were the fruit of researching visuals from around the world of street art, graffiti, outdoor and urban design.

We all graduated together from LAU in 2011 and since ‘Paint Up’ has kept us together. Some of us have traveled, returned, others have stayed and never left – but whatever we decide and do, we do it together.

The name ‘Dihzahyners’ comes from the dictionary enunciation of the word “designers”. We always like to represent ourselves as ‘Dihzahyners’, even in the media and social coverage, our foundation stone is that nothing can be built and sustained without a team, as a whole.

After we brought together “Dihzahyners” in 2012, ‘Paint Up’ was the brainchild of co-founders Lana Chukri and I; it is a non-profit organization and series of projects that were created by the team members themselves. It evolved into a living, breathing entity that resonated with artists, enterprises and people worldwide.
